In Surrey, /ˈk mbərliː/ Camberley is to Central London's southwest by (50 km) 31 miles. York Town, Crawley Hill, Old Dean, Heatherside, and Diamond Ridge include suburbs. The area by Camberley occupied before the 19th century was referred to as Frimley Heath or Bagshot. To avoid confusion by General Post Office with Cambridge in Cambridgeshire, the area that is surrounding as Cambridge Town became known, but in January 1877 was renamed "Camberley".

After Henry Kremer toured a Microcell factory, Kremer prize in 1959 was conceived in Camberley in Cambridge Hotel. Adjacent to Hampshire's Hart district and Berkshire's Bracknell Forest district, Camberley is in the far west of Surrey. Although the two are, for the most part, the smaller Frimley, being so close to Camberley, is regarded as part of the town.

As undergoing a regeneration project by the council, Camberley's town centre is set to improve. The white elephant, concrete pipe, which approaching The Meadows roundabout is on the A30, is a landmark in Camberley. At Ascot or Ash Vale for London are where non-peak times passengers from Camberley change. Astride the south-west road are Camberley's parts that are northern such as College Town.

France Hill School, Kings International College is in Camberley. University of London, Royal Holloway, which is east of Camberley by 18 km (11 mi) in Egham, with (at Guildford) the University of Surrey and the University of Reading both being 25 km (16 mi) to the southeast and northwest are the nearest universities. Playing in the Premier division of the Combined Counties League is Camberley Town football club.

The film adaptation of William Golding's Lord of the Flies mentioned the renaming of Camberley. The known motorcycle scrambling event, the Southern Scott Scramble took place on Camberley Heath on 29 March 1924. With a mental hospital in nearby Crowthorne, Camberley falls under the Broadmoor Hospital's area of siren test. York Town and Camberley were in the ecclesiastical Frimley in the 19th century.

Despite the name suggesting otherwise, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is in Camberley. Built around the Main Square, Camberley's centre is host to The Mall centre. Mainly around clubs and sports venues such as The Arena, Camberley has an active sporting scene, a leisure centre and pool facility close to the centre.
